Marathonisi Island

Marathonisi is a small uninhabited island, across the beach of Keri village, in Laganas bay. Its perimeter is just about a mile and its shape resembles a turtle. It can be reached by boat from Keri coast and Agios Sostis port. To get there, you can take one of the boats that have frequently itineraries to the island, hire a small boat or take part in one of the organized tours that visit Marathonisi every day. The island has two main beaches. The big one has white sand, while the other has pebbles. The majestic sandy beach is where the sea turtle Caretta Caretta goes to lay its eggs and that is why Marathonisi is included as part of Zakynthos National Marine Park. The nature there is pure exotic, as Marathonisi keeps its characteristic pine, olive and green oak forests in excellent conditions and the crystal clear blue waters are really fabulous.
Marathonisi island is 100% unspoiled and no shops or taverns are found there, so it is advisable to take water and other supplies with you if you intend to stay there for the day.
